You must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license to rent or drive. Every person who drives must be 18+ and licensed.
Our carts seat 4 or 6 passengers. Everyone must wear a seatbelt, and you can’t carry more people than there are seatbelts. Children must be in an appropriate car seat or booster as required by Alabama law.
They’re Low-Speed Vehicles, so they top out around 35 mph.

An LSV is a cart built to federal safety standards — seatbelts, headlights, tail lights, turn signals, mirrors, a windshield, and a VIN — that’s registered, tagged, and insured for road use. A regular golf cart isn’t street legal; an LSV is. All of our carts are street-legal LSVs.
On Dauphin Island only, on roads where LSVs are allowed, following all posted speed-limit signs and the island’s rules, during daylight hours.
No. Carts are not allowed on the beach, on sand, or on dirt roads.
No. You can only drive on roads where LSVs are permitted under Dauphin Island’s rules and posted speed limits — not on high-speed roads or the bridge.
No. Carts aren’t allowed on bike paths, bike lanes, or sidewalks.
No. You pick up and drop off at Beach Planet, so there’s no delivery or pickup fee.
Yes. Return the cart with a full tank of gas, or a refueling fee of $10–$30 (depending on how much is needed) will be charged to your card on file.
You can book online anytime in advance, but the driver needs to come to Beach Planet between 9am-12pm and 2pm-6pm. For pickup to show a valid driver’s license and sign the rental agreement.
There’s a $25 non-refundable booking deposit. We don’t require separate insurance, but we keep a card on file to cover any fees or damage — fuel, cleaning, towing, late return, lost key, or damage to the cart. You’re responsible for any damage while the cart is in your care, and keep in mind your personal auto insurance likely won’t cover a Low-Speed Vehicle.
